The Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V has been a family favorite for a while now, and there are several reasons for that popularity. It exceptionally mixes a sporty feel with a large cabin that is packed with features designed to make your ride, and life, easier.

It has a sleek exterior design that suggests an inherently fun drive, a promise it definitely follows through on, but its design hides the spacious cabin it treats passengers to when they open up the door. There is up to 105.9 cubic feet of passenger room, and each row of passengers has over 40 inches of leg room and over 55.6 inches of shoulder room, so cramping is never an issue. Plus, the cargo area behind the second row has nearly 40 cubic feet of space, and there is up to 75.8 cubic feet of cargo space when the second row is folded down, so space is rarely an issue.

Additionally, the Honda CR-V is available with two different engines, but they're fairly close in terms of peak power. A 184-horsepower 2.4-liter engine comes standard and packs 180 pound-feet of torque, but every trim level but the first comes with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that puts out 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque. Drivers will enjoy a sporty feel and confidence when handling tough terrain with whichever engine they choose, and all-wheel drive is an option for even more capability.

We finally come to the features, and while the Honda CR-V shares a lot with the Honda Pilot, there are some differences between the two. For one, the Honda Sensing® safety suite comes standard on every Honda CR-V but the base model, and other driver assist-features, like blind spot monitoring and automatic high-beam headlights, do too.

The Honda Pilot

The three-row Honda Pilot is the perfect model for drivers that need more passenger and cargo room while still getting great features and powerful performance, but it does come with a higher starting price. It has up to 153.1 cubic feet of passenger room for seating for up to eight passengers comfortably, and, while it does have a smaller cargo area, 16.5 cubic feet, than the Honda CR-V, it has a max cargo capacity of 83.9 feet, so adventurers and larger families alike will find it easier for exploring and parenting duties.

Three-row SUVs are normally less exciting, but the only engine option of the Honda Pilot is a 280-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 that is more than capable of powering the larger SUV, which is best felt in the surprising acceleration and handling, and it can tow up to 5,000 pounds, so boat owners will find it a better option than the Honda CR-V.

As car shoppers will find with any Honda model, the Honda Pilot is filled with convenient features, and while some are similar to what the Honda CR-V offers, like the Honda Sensing® suite, the Pilot offers several features that the Honda CR-V doesn't. There's the Honda LaneWatch™ feature that provides a live feed from a camera on your exterior mirror when you activate the blinker, so you can check your blind spots before switching lanes, and comfort features, like tri-zone climate control and heated rear seats, that improve your ride in a variety of ways.
